New Project – Truly custom pair of jeans

Hi y’all! It has been few weeks since my last update on Project Wear and Tear. I have been thinking what can we possibly do to top Project Wear and Tear or Lot 3010? I’ve noticed a lot of inquiries about custom jeans, and then it hit me; how about a denim project defined by you, designed by you and eventually worn by you? I have not come across such denim project as of yet, but I think it could be fun or at least little bit awesome. Below a quote from our Blog on the topic. Let us know how you feel via comments here, via email or on Facebook, or via Twitter for that matter. If there is support, we’ll do it and start talks with the good folks in Japan.

We all have our dream jeans / denim. We have our preferred fit, denim fabric, hardware, stitching color, leather patch and pocket lining. Denim enthusiasts try number of labels, brands and types of jeans to find the ideal pair that will go through the Wear and Tear. Some even voice out their preference to the brands. But has your dream pair of jeans been made already? That’s the question that came to my mind and that spiraled an idea of a crowd sourced pair of jeans. A pair of jeans you (yes you, our dear reader) design. A pair of jeans designed by the fans, enthusiasts or denim appreciators altogether. I think it would be an awesome if not ultimate denim project. So what do you say, shall we create the ultimate pair of jeans. We have lots of friends whom can help produce this ultimate pair a collaborative pair of jeans you can help design and then get for yourself.

Fading 3010

Time flies, I can’t believe I have worn the Lot 3010 jeans for over 6 months already. I guess the recent launch of the brand and products sort of distorts the time as the first pair produced, or the sample I am wearing was produced, packed and shipped already last year.

Northern Denim Co. Ladies Chaotic Fit

I’m one of those lucky girls wearing the Husky Boy jeans. Fit is totally awesome, it looks great although it’s a straight cut and i dare to say; “Straight is the new Skinny! Do you hear me ladies?” ;) . I guess there’s no further explanation needed for the details, i really love the simple and clean look of the jeans so Kudos to the great man behind this project.

Dutch Chainstich

The first 3 days after I received my Northern Denim Co. were really crazy. I first missed the postman the other day, then I did the hot tub soaking and then I got my jeans hemmed in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands, one might say. Yeah, there was never a doubt for me where to let my pants chainstiched. First, the store is the only one around ( and I mean in a bigger km radius) second, for me it is just around the corner and they have a Union Special. So last saturday I payed Roger and his brother Marcel or Marcel and his brother Roger a visit in their beautiful store in Kerkrade, the Jeanspaleis.
They carry brands like Edwin, Spellbound, Buttero, Denim Demon, Bellrose, Denham, Jack Flynn, Atelier LaDurance, just to mention but a few. They are in the business for 35 years already and they love their business and are true denim experts. It is always fun and interresting seeing them and they are very chilled guys. If you are around, pay them a visit…
Since Roger had nothing else to do he started shortening my new and soaked Northern Denim Co. pair. I did not expect my jeans to be shortened immediately so I had no camera with me. Luckily Marcel jumped in and took pics. Thx man.
We agreed upon a length and Roger cut off the residual denim. Then he used an iron to iron up the loose ends for 1 cm in order to edge-stich the end. He used a tabacco colored yarn for the stiching of one of the legs. For the second leg s.th went wrong with the stiching so that Marcel needed to unravel the whole chainstich and do it all over again. By that time I found out that they have a lot of different yarns and colors for the stiching. After some discussion we agreed upon that i wanted to have the outer stiching in tabacco (from Denham yarn) and the inner stiching in orange (from Atelier LaDurance yarn). It took 10 more minutes and my jeans was done. Amazing, thx to Roger for his patience.
After all it was a truly amazing afternoon which was rounded up by a glass of wine. Perfect!!!
Thx again to all at Jeanspaleis and especially Roger and Marcel. See you soon!

Soaking…

Since I received my Northern Denim Co. jeans yesterday, Taavi recommended soaking the jeans before putting them into actual use. In the past I did one soak with the KIKS@Momotaro model but this is to be neglected since the pair was already sanforized. Actually, I did not feel like soaking the jeans (waiting for the jeans to be dry means not wearing, mmpf). Part of that feeling was also due to my lack of knowledge of how to soak my raw jeans. I browsed the net and knew a place right away: http://www.rawrdenim.com/2011/03/soaking-raw-denim-the-critical-preliminary-step/

Soaking?

…that was my question.
This is what my girl wrote (kinda ambiguous but unintentionally). More to come:

The Baby is finally there

Today is my day. Finally, (after is missed the postman yesterday) I received my Northern Denim Co and I could not be happier. The denim, the fit, the color, the feeling while wearing is absolutely gorgeous. Taavi, you more than lived up to your promises. Congratulations! Lukily I choose for waist size 36, fits me perfect!
The postman saw me smiling like hell when he gave me his portable computer to sign that I received the package. He returned the smile and knew that I was expecting something valuable, which I did.
See why I smiled:

Bluce on display

While waiting for his new pair of jeans Tuomas decided to share the jeans “with the world” outside of the blog. In a retail environment to be more accurate. His jeans are on display at Okiya. The jeans have seen more torment and have been put through more wear and tear than most jeans see in a decade. Still I would argue the jeans look better than ever even after all that “damage”. So if you want to see the jeans live head to Okiya. Oh and Rob, more picture please. :)

Northern Denim Co. – 6 months

I’ve intentionally kept the Wear and Tear blog quiet in the past weeks. We just finished hell of a year and I thought we should take a break before restarting the blog with new (and some on-going) projects. What I had in mind for 2012 was that I want to keep posting updates on my on-going and future projects and as per what I heard from some of our other participants they might want to keep posting their project pics on the site as well. So without further due, I kick-start the 2012 Project Wear and Tear without Lion Dance or other celebrations but rather with a picture of sugar cane. Not the jeans but actual sugar cane which is pretty awesome. It’s like chewing on a tree branch that has sugar water inside. Something new, something fresh and random enough for the blog.

So back to the jeans…
