Inspired. That was the title of my friend Joonas’ email when he first showed me what he had done. So unlike the previous weeks, today he will be the one doing the talking.
For a while now I’ve been following the wear & tear -project through the writings of my friend Tuomas. It’s fascinating to see Bruce go through it’s paces and all in all it’s fun to read. The NDH-blog is also familiar and what strikes me first is the amount of cool collaborations that are presented through it (lastly Stüssy meets mutants).
One day browsing the interwebs I bumped into the work of Shin Tanaka. He is a japanese graffiti artist/ designer/ paper doll maker/ cool dude. I especially liked models T-Boy and Hoophy. A while ago a project was announced where designers could download the blank template of Hoophy provided by Mr. Tanaka and make their own designs. Unfortunately that project was long closed when I found out about it. Nevertheless using some questionable methods I managed to get me a black template.
This is where Wear & Tear comes in. Japananese attention to detail is something that I admire and that is the core in both the jeans and the dolls. So why not combine the two? A little surfing in this blog, some photoshop and illustrator work, a lot of trial and error in the assembly and superglue everywhere. And voilá! Wear & Tear meets Hoophy = Bluce.
