Seven weeks of wear – The Japan Lines

This week I thought of putting the focus on the Japan Lines. I have not paid much attention on the lines or their development as I have been so focused on the other parts of the jeans. Today the jeans have been hanging next to the window just airing. Finally a lazy Sunday with not much to do and just lounging at home. So my jeans caught a break as well. So how about the lines? I think it has been a minute since I posted last detailed picture of the lines and this is how the lines looked like in the beginning.

The jeans have been worn quite a lot since the picture was taken. So how do the lines look now?

The lines have been worn out especially from the sides. The denim’s pattern is pushing through the lines and we can see some blue through the white paint. Especially the sides are wearing off nicely. The paint used for the lines has lower “rubber” content than the paint used to paint wood, plastic etc. Thus, the painted lines fade nicely along with the jeans.

So next week I will be posting detailed pics of the fading and who knows maybe the jeans get a wash before that. Stay tuned for more updates.

  1. Looks great Taavi… that’s my dilemma : I would love to wear the lines, but I only like ‘em when faded as hell (e.g Momo’s advertisements)… yours start to get rid of virginity, so I like. Wear hard !

Ps. the denim itself makes me curious, it has a nice hue… want to see it in real.

Cheers Rob. Yeah, I was actually surprised to see the lines faded as much as they have. But in a year’s time I would expect them to be faded even further. I think if I was keeping something in my right back pocket the lines might actually fade even faster (suh), but all in good time. Yeah, the jeans have an interesting hue indeed. Although the fabric is similar to Copper Label, the raw start tends to personalize the process even further, so it’ll be interesting to see how the jeans evolve in comparison to my Copper Label G003-MB Momotaro Jeans.

Hi Taavi. Well, me too… Curious to see how the lines evolve! Temted wearing them myself after the project (or in between, to rotate) :-)
Also curious about the outcome of the denim after your first machine wash : shall it equal the copper label in terms of color/hue? You see, am eager to know Momotaro’s rinsing process, as I only know that it is temperature controlled…

Are you staying, or are you returning to Finland shortly?

  4. Taavi Kuisma says:

Cheers Rob. Just threw the jeans into the washing machine last night. My wife said the jeans had started to smell so that just doesn’t do. :)

They were still drying this morning, so wearing my old Copper Label jeans today. THESE JEANS ARE AWESOME. I mean damn, not sure how to give up on wearing these jeans, haha.

Oh, and the jeans have been machine washed once already. I always machine wash my jeans. Only hand washing the jeans if I have no washing machine close by. This far the denim is behaving very similar to Copper Label, although I think the difference will only start to really show in few months’ time.

To answer your question, we are currently posted in Malaysia indefinitely. Running everything from here and I have the crew in Finland running things on that side. Starting work on our Momotaro Jeans’ representation in the South-East Asian region. Plenty of potential here, but certain challenges we are hoping to step up to. :)

    Cheers!

Nice to read all this! Glad you’re doing fine in Malaysia.

As for Momotaro, we should ask for a collab, all the best into one jean : NDHxOKIYAxMOMOTARO. what about that?!

  6. Taavi Kuisma says:

Yes, already discussed details on collaboration with the guys. But all in good time. Right now working on a personal label. But sounds pretty good. Let’s keep the topic alive and see what we can come up with. Cheers!
