It’s Valentine’s Day again. The day when flower sales suddenly increase and everyone is expressing their love to their significant others, or just others. It’s that one day of the year I tend to forget, but that thing aside it’s a day or at least an evening I tend to spend with my wife. This year it’s not the case as two of the closest people in my life are in my wife’s hometown leaving me in the city, alone.

But it’s all good. I still have my jeans. My Lot 3010 project needs some quick fixes soon as I finally put the tear into project wear and tear. The hole in the knee is expanding the more I wear the jeans but it’s OK, gives the jeans some character.

Been giving some attention to my previous Copper Label project while at it. Some days wearing jeans with huge gap on the knee is just not right, so it’s good to have an extra pair for rotation. While waiting for my pair of Lot 750x, the G003-MB Copper Label Momotaro Jeans will do just fine.

Note the very different tone/ color of the two jeans. The Lot 3010 (left) has much darker hue although the fading is equally awesome. For some reason I always thought they would be same but the Blue is quite different indeed.

Nonetheless I trust it will be only few weeks until we kick off the new project, so stay tuned as I will reveal more details of the Lot 750x. Peace…

Took a day off from most of my business for some camping action. Actually this trip was not authentic camping but rather “glamping” as the folks I went there with called it. The difference is that though you sleep in a tent, the tent is huge, you have your own bed with clean sheets and a proper toilet and shower. Not to mention food served as well as other entertainment. Still it was awesome, just look at the view!

But as said, it was quite relaxing. Some hiking in the jungle but mostly just chilling.

Checking out gigantic ants…

No matter what’s the agenda, it’s always nice to escape the concrete jungle for some greener environment.

-30 to +30 degrees, these jeans won’t let anyone down!

That was Friday and Saturday. But post jungle trip, I still had energy to travel to Kuala Selangor for some seafood in an equally nice environment.

Back in action, looking forward to my next project and living the life. It’s all good, so stay tuned for more.

We’ve been back to Malaysia for few weeks now and I have still not managed to wash my jeans. I think last wash was before Christmas back in Finland and the jeans then made a trip back to Malaysia, and here and there (Amsterdam and Singapore included). Dirt aside, I believe these pants deserve some patching up as the wear is finally transforming into tear.

Check out the distressed honeycombs!

Or what about the left knee/ lower thigh area…

Currently the Lot 3010 Northern Denim Co. jeans look like a pair of pre-distressed denim, which is not bad but I am planning to keep wearing the jeans for another few months so I guess some quick fixes wouldn’t hurt.

Last but not least the right (mobile phone) pocket. Lining of which needs some attention from a needle and string.

Still nothing to complain about. The jeans have served me well and while waiting for my first pair of Lot 750x, I will make sure these jeans walk another few miles with me. Stay tuned for more…

We’re back to Finland. It’s like yesterday when I posted pics of my Northern Denim Co. Lot 3010 denim project last year and now I’m back at it. Since we are back I will make use of studio environment and snap few good evolution pic but I would like to start off with pics of the environment we are back in. You know some key differences between the Malaysian environment we are currently all too used to.

A) it gets dark at 3pm.

This picture showcases a typical afternoon and day-time outdoor market. Yes they have outdoor market even during winter.

B) You need layers and layers of clothing.

Maxwell is not all too fond of extra layers and thus we do not go out all that often but guess what. The Lot 3010 jeans (even one year in) are weather proof and nicely repel the -20 degrees Celsius weather.

C) Your fur hat might freeze on the window.

Take care of your fur hat as when it gets -23 outside, your fur hat or anything else might just freeze on the window. Not even sure how the hell that happened but yes, it’s that cold.

So we’re enjoying this royal cold climate for another two weeks before heading back to our second home. It’s all good, will keep you all posted.

I was supposed to write and post this yesterday, but I ran out of hours and had to catch some sleep. Nevertheless, last weekend I finally found the time and inspiration to snap some pictures not only for the project but also our website. I could say that the scenery inspired the pics.

Scenery aside, what I really love about these trips is the family time. Someone recently asked me, what does time mean to me? The only thing that came to my mind was family. I guess in the back of my mind I have set the priorities straight. But in company of gentlemen like Maxwell, it makes perfect sense.

(he needs jeans)

I am currently working on the next Northern Denim Co. project titled “Lot 750x”. The follow-up project to Lot 3010 should keep me quite busy for the next few months. But it should be fun. Following the massive reception of the 3010, a follow-up makes perfect sense.

But let’s not forget the current on-going project. A year on and these jeans are still evolving, and I have to say I am quite attached to the jeans (or vice versa).

The jeans need to stay intact for at least another 2 months before I believe I will commence the next stage in this project/journey. I have no doubt the jeans will be fine. They are built to last and last they shall. Until I retire the jeans for the next project. More of that project soon, so stay tuned.

It’s been over a year since I started to wear and tear the Northern Denim Co. Lot 3010 jeans and the jeans are holding their weight well.

The first concern I had going into this project was if the 13.5oz Old American Selvedge Denim could withstand the constant wear. I could not be happier with the evolution of the denim. Some could argue the jeans fade slower than some other similar denim pants, but take a look at the pics below, and you’ll see these jeans do fade. Even after several washes.

The denim has softened a lot and there has been some light twill breaks and unraveled stitching but nothing you would not expect after a year of wear. My previous belt was worn to bits and pieces and those following our blog known of the new belt I chose to keep my pants up. Versace this time around.

It’s been a crazy year and it’s only going to get crazier as we are heading back to Finland for Christmas. Another test of the elements for the jeans. Bring it on! …says Maxwell.

Got the jeans a wash the other day, nothing out of the ordinary, a typical machine wash with normal detergent. It’s been almost a year since I started to wear the jeans and the closer we get to that one year mark, the more I find myself comparing this denim project with the previous ones.

The denim is different, the workmanship, the same but what about the evolution? I was reading my old blog post on the Copper Label project at month 11. Funny enough, the pocket had a rip around the same time with that project, also the jeans seem to be in a very similar state. The biggest difference is that I was in winter wonderland in Finland back then, now in the tropical Malaysia. Still the fading has similarities. The main similarity being the awesomeness of both jeans.

G003-MB – Momotaro Jeans

Lot 3010 – Northern Denim Co.

One key difference is the lack of iPhone fading on the front pocket. I still carry my phone in the same pocket, but this time around there is no such fading.

In related news, the Lot 3010 Northern Denim Co. jeans are almost sold out with exception of few pairs in sizes 28 and 30. So if these sizes fit you, feel free to contact yours truly to ensure a pair. Also if you have a store and would like to stock Northern Denim Co., do contact me.

The “weak link” of majority of jeans, the pocket lining. The pocket bag tends to tear within the first year with majority of jeans. Some pants have softer lining which results in even easier tearing. For my beloved Lot 3010 Northern Denim Co. Jeans, the pocket lining tore after close to one year of wear. Nothing major, just a little hole result of keys in the pocket.

Last time when discussing soft pocket lining of a particular Momotaro Jeans design, I got an understanding that in Japan folks tend not carry keys in the jeans’ pockets which is why use of such softer fabric is normal. I did not choose such a soft fabric for the Lot 3010, and the pants have kept my keys safe for the past year. But in the end, I did end up fixing the holes.

It seems to be a wear and tear month not just on the denim front but with my belt as well. The Gucci belt is coming to the end of the road unless some repairs are done, fast. Unfortunately the leather belt requires a bit more tools than I have at hand. Otherwise I would just fix the belt myself.

I think this project will extend to end of the year at least though I have not locked down the next project just yet. It might just be another Northern Denim Co. design. Stay tuned for more.

I know I am not the only one whom “suffers” from scuffed cuffs. You know the effect months of close contact with floors creates right? I can only blame myself for this of course. I tend not to cuff my jeans when and since I sag my jeans a bit (yes, I think this habit will follow me for a long time) even if I have a perfect inseam length, the cuffs tend to get the “sanding effect”. So let us observe the results.

I do have to salute the chainstitching which has lasted for almost a year of wear and tear and is still intact in the most vulnerable part of the jeans. The roping effect also keeps getting better by the washes. At least the cuffs are still intact although I foresee that the back of the cuffs will tear in about 3 months’ time.

The stitching has of course come loose from few spots but this is obvious. With my last pair the Status was rather similar or of my memory serves me right, even worse. The denim keeps fading and I will document the process along the way. Let’s see what next week brings along.
